It's nothing new to need the correct documents to travel, years ago my mother organised to take my brother and his 2 children to Disney, France. When they arrived at the airport they learnt that the one child couldn't travel without his mother as they shared a passport, luckily she was there and tickets were exchanged and my mother returned home. CHECK, CHECK CHECK is my advice especially now that rules have changed and Covid-19 documents are needed as well. The same happened to my mom. The ukvi said she could travel without a Brp if her passport was attached to her ukvi account.
